As the long awaited and capable Governor of Edo state Senator Monday Okpebholo arrives, real changes have started to manifest.
The Budget of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Governor Obaseki’s time was N5.9 billion in 2024 and yet farmers and Edo people didn’t see the manifestation of such humongous budget in the form of large scale food production or reduction in the prices and goods and services. Instead what we saw was bringing into Edo state foreigners to take away what belongs to Edo people.
This year 2025, the workaholic governor of Edo state, a man who understands what Edo peoples’ needs are, Senator Monday Okpebholo jumped the ministry’s budget to N70b marking a record-breaking of 1,086% increase. Of course, Governor Okpebholo, a grassroot Esan man who knows the terrain and understands what benefits can accrue from increased agricultural budget.
An increased agricultural budget can lead to benefits like enhanced food security, economic growth, poverty reduction, and rural development by supporting farmers, improving infrastructure, and promoting sustainable practices.
Edo state is ready and willing to join forces with the workaholic governor Okpebholo for a better and prosperous Edo state .
